MY WHERE ARE WE NOW PROJECT

I am doing Florence, Italy, and will be talking about the recent discovery of a miniature model of a massive architecturally defying dome built during the Renaissance.

Here is a link to the article: http://news.discovery.com/history/archaeology/scale-model-discovered-for-florence-cathedral-130110.htm

Here is my summary:
Recently, archaeologists have uncovered a model dome of the great dome of the Santa Maria Del Fiore. The domes use a herringbone pattern of bricks to send the immense pressure to the base. This technique was first used in Persian domes, but copied by the builder. The builder, Fillipo Bruneschelli, never used a single scaffold throughout all of the massive dome's construction. This model dome is the first example of the herringbone pattern of bricks ever being used in Europe. The model dome has not been fully excavated, so it may still hold many of the

Chinese Nature Poem

The farmers work the fields, tend the rice
A few on break sit by the edge of the glistening pool
Thinking serene thoughts by the shade of a tree
And looking out at the great fog bank rolling in

You can really get a good idea of the scene from this poem. Mr. Chester

100 MOST INFLUENTIAL: Confucius

Confucius was born in 551 BCE. He is best known for being a Chinese scholar, politician, and philosopher.
He taught that there are 5 different relationships between people,
and those are: ruler and subject, father and son, older brother and younger brother, husband and wife, and friend and friend.
Confucius believed that, by human nature, people longed to be with other people in some sort of relation.
All of his relationships, except the last, show how he believed that you should look up to your superiors.
Confucius’ teachings have affected the way China was governed too. For 2,000 years, Confucianism was the standard philosophy of China.
Confucius’ teachings about looking up to your superiors were well liked by the emperor (for obvious reasons). This led to the introduction of Confucianism into the government.
Confucius was not very much interested in Gods, an afterlife, or rebirth, and other things we tend to think of when we think of religion, but when it was introduced into China’s government, People started worshipping Confucius and his followers.
Confucianists believed they were the only civilized country, and so tended to be a bit stubborn and rejecting of other ways of life.
This actually tended to be disastrous for them when they refused to adopt Western ideas in the late 19th and 20th centuries.
Confucius created the whole system of Confucianism, and so that is probably why he is on the top 100 most influential people in such a high place.

MY LIFE IS THE WORLD

My life is the world.
The world is very turbulent.
Constantly changing.
Sometimes it's rocky.
Sometimes it's smooth.
Many times the world has been changed by other
Celestial objects, outside its comfort zone.
Many times the world has been changed from within.
Sometimes, these changes cause the world to start over.
These new beginnings can help or hurt.
they cause new mountains, new valleys.
they make new ideas, new ways of thinking.
but the world embraces these changes and continues on.
And that is how my life is like the world.
